My roommate just got scammed! She told me about it after I came home from work. I'm just relieved that she's okay. My roommate and I are talking about whatever security solutions we can put in place now. It happened while I was coming back from my astronomy class. We'd all been in the observatory so we could use the large telescopes to look at the eclipse and I came back to the dorm later than I normally would have. Apparently, while I was away, someone was going through the dorms trying to sell magazine subscriptions door-to-door. That's against the dorms' policy but I guess my friend somehow felt like she had to open the door. Anyways, she actually let him come inside! He was a smooth talker and he just talked his way right through the door. It's just scary to think that she was home by herself while this stranger was there with her. Fortunately all he wanted was her money, but she was pretty shaken up about it. He told her he wouldn't do anything as long as she handed him whatever cash she had. He took off running when she did. I think she's learned her lesson! We're going to make sure this never happens again!
